T-2E BUCKEYE CRASHED IN GREECE
A Hellenic Air Force T-2E Buckeye twin-engine intermediate jet training aircraft crashed on 3 January in southern Greece while on a routine training flight from Kalamata air base.
The aircraft identified as a 1977-produced, 41-year-old T-2E (military identification number 160098/"98", construction number 396-1/40) took-off from Kalamata at 11.00 hours local time. Fifty five minutes later the crew reported engine failure and decided to cease the mission for an urgent return to Kalamata air base. Shortly after the second engine also failed forcing both crew members to abandon the falling aircraft and eject successfully.
The crashed aircraft belonged to the 363rd Air Training Squadron of Kalamata-based Air Force Training Command's 120th Air Training Wing.
